Tracing Back The Roots Of Modern Art
Art is an expression of one's thought and is portrayed on a canvas with different mediums. It has been right there since the primitive times, where cave men illustrated their family stories on the huge walls of the caves. It was carried over to the Stone Age, where art evolved and thrived in different forms. With a humble tradition it has paved the way for the present age graphic illustrators. Art in olden days was highly influenced by the lifestyle of the people and depicted the various events that took place in their lives. Present age art forms are more of an abstract form representing the unknown side of the subject to the viewer.
The evolution of art through the various stages can be studied with the references collected by the art historians. During the period of Stone Age, tools or sharp end rocks were used to create art. It is was more like an impression and is the first of the many evolved art forms. Historians categorize them as the ancient art of the cave men. It slowly evolved from primitive men and transformed as lifestyles changed among people. They moved out of the cocoon to experiment and express their thought and ideas in the form of art.
Before we start, to understand about the present day modern art, let us take a look at some of the preceding art forms. We had the era of the ancient art that moved towards the medieval period and paved way for the widely acclaimed renaissance movement. From there, it moved further up to the formative years of early modern art and then post the modern art, we now live amidst the more refined contemporary arts of the present time. What started as a small spark like impressionism has given birth to a whole new generation of art forms. Most of them were influenced by the change in governments, lifestyles of people and also the society.
Intermediate periods like art nouveau and art deco movements instilled a stronger influence on modern day painters. They appeared to be more ornamental and had too many details to catch the eye. Most of the works that happened during the art deco period have been used as references by present age architects, designers, jewel makers, product designers and so on. It has created a niche in the world of design and is still an art form that is still put to good use. Graphic arts and commercial art forms are seen as present day modern art and it thoroughly evolved from reduction of abstract art forms.
Pictorial representation, sketches, photography and other present day art expressions are all seen as representations of modern art. Playing with colors, lines, shadow and light have all been used by present age connoisseurs. The more advanced forms would be the digital presentation of art in 3-dimensional forms. It is like bringing life to a character on the canvas and offering a whole new perspective to the viewer. With the advent of technology, modern art has come a long way from it earlier days.
